Natural Weathering
Because of its wood content, natural color shifts do occur in Trex® products. Twelve to sixteen weeks of exposure to sunlight and rain are typically required for Trex® to achieve its faded color. This process is completely harmless to Trex® products and does not affect the durability. The “after weathering” color of Trex® may be different from the colors shown on the Trex® Colors page. There may also be color variation between components. This is normal and gives Trex® its distinctive look and character.
The weathering process may be accelerated in dry areas by periodically wetting down the fence using a garden hose. The top caps and top rail will fade the fastest because of their direct exposure to the elements. Given their vertical orientation, the pickets and post faces may take considerably longer to fade.
